Egg the Flow

Egg: The Flow is a photographic series that investigates rivers through the recurring presence of eggs. Rather than functioning primarily as symbols, the eggs operate as mediating objects that open different ways of observing, experiencing, and relating to flowing water. The project takes its point of departure from Robert Filliou's Poïpoïdrom, in which the egg appears as a generative object within an open, collective system. Inspired by Filliou's understanding of the egg as a catalyst for possibility rather than a fixed symbol, the series adopts eggs as tools for observation—objects that mediate encounters between people, rivers, and images.

The work unfolds across several interconnected layers. One body of photographs follows eggs as they move through rivers, becoming part of their material processes. Floating, sinking, gathering sediment, or gradually changing through prolonged contact with water, the eggs reveal the river's rhythms, textures, and temporalities. Rather than representing the river as landscape, these images investigate it through direct engagement with its continuous transformations.

A second layer focuses on people encountering rivers through eggs. Carrying, holding, placing, or retrieving them from the water becomes a simple but attentive gesture that establishes an intimate relationship between body and environment. These photographs explore how ordinary actions can generate new forms of ecological awareness, care, and coexistence.

A third layer places the series in dialogue with art history through references, quotations, and recontextualisations of works in which eggs, rivers, or the idea of flow occupy a central role. These appropriations are not presented as direct citations but as conversations across artistic practices and historical moments. By allowing historical and contemporary images to overlap, the project constructs a shared visual language in which the circulation of images parallels the movement of water itself.

Photographed along the Danube and Tisza rivers in Hungary and the Lot River in Casseneuil, France, Egg: The Flow combines documentary observation with performative and conceptual approaches. The series considers the river as a site of continuous exchange, where materials, bodies, memories, and images are carried, transformed, and connected through the logic of flow.
